Two odd realities at The National Art Gallery-London, England
The first is entering one of the most famous galleries in the world. From Trafalgar Square we walked up the steps, pushed open a very ordinary glass door and we were in; no charge and minimal visible security. We just walked up to the second floor and there were the original paintings of Gainsborough, Constable, and Turner.
The second oddity is that the prints of these painters are better than the originals in the Gallery. The reason is that to preserve the originals there is allowed only limited light and that is from a fairly narrow skylight. The sky is not blue in Constable's scene of fields and trees.
